Terry Jones Drafts To Daytona Best With Win-Tron Racing

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (February 17, 2014) - - In his 51st career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start, Terry Jones delivered a strong eighth place finish in last Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200 presented by MATV American Real.

Not only did Jones produce his best finish ever at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, but the Amherstburg, Ontario native qualified a track best of 10th on Friday afternoon leading up to the 2014 season opener.

Jones in the No. 32 Jones Group International / JMC Steel Group Toyota Camry avoided the “big one” on Lap 12 and pitted under that caution for what they hoped would be their lone stop on pit road.

When racing resumed, Jones found himself in a lead draft of 18 vehicles, but approaching Lap 40, the No. 32 Jones Group International / JMC Steel Group Toyota Camry began to overheat forcing the ARCA Racing Series veteran to escape the main pack to cool down his automobile.

Taking advantage of clean air and a late-race caution, Jones’s engine survived and he was able to climb several positions late to claim his sixth top-10 finish of his ARCA career.
“We had a great car, probably one of the best I’ve ever had at Daytona,” said Jones. “I cannot thank Mark (Rette, crew chief) and the entire Win-Tron Racing team for the opportunity. Even with the overheating issues, this car was so fast, it would get back in the draft and suck up to the pack. We’ll get this car cleaned up and hope we can climb into the top-five for Talladega in a couple months.”

For Rette, who was instrumental in fusing the partnership together, he was satisfied with the team’s result. “Terry did a good job for Win-Tron Racing,” he said. “We had a good car. Luckily, we didn’t hurt the motor and were able to contend for a strong finish. We’ll take the car back to the shop and see if we can’t make it even stronger for him (Terry) for Talladega in May.”

Saturday was a stellar day for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based Win-Tron Racing team. In addition to Jones’s eighth place effort, his teammate, 10-time and reining ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel, delivered a strong second place finish in the No. 44 Ansell / Menards Toyota Camry.

While the ARCA Racing Series resumes their schedule with a stop at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway, Jones will return to the No. 32 Jones Group International / JMC Steel Group Toyota Camry for the Saturday, May 3 running of the Talladega ARCA 200 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Win-Tron Racing will look to make it three consecutive top-10 finishes for the organization within a week as former ARCA driver Mason Mingus will make his debut at the “World Center of Racing” in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ season-opener, the NextEra Energy Resources 250 on Friday, February 21. Mingus, 19, will drive the No. 35 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota Tundra and contend for Rookie of the Year honors.

Exiting Daytona, Jones has 51 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts to his credit with one top-five (fifth; Talladega 2013) and six top-10 finishes to his credit. He has a career-best qualifying position of sixth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in the fall of 2006
