All-time ARCA winner Frank Kimmel looking for win number 1 at Mobile short track
(TOLEDO, Ohio) – Frank Kimmel has won more ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards races than any other human on earth, which says a lot considering the tour’s in its 62nd consecutive season of competition.

That said, the list of tracks that Kimmel has not won at is much simpler to compile than trying to figure out where he has won.

So we start with the most obvious of tracks on the short list – Daytona, where he’s finished runner-up three times but nary a win. Next – Mobile Int’l Speedway, where the 10-time ARCA national champion is also winless. To be fair, Kimmel’s only had two shots at Mobile with this year being just the third annual ARCA-Mobile 200.

“It’s (Mobile) a short track; it’s what this tour’s all about,” Kimmel said. “I’ve always loved the short tracks that we go to. I put a lot of pressure on myself to run good at your Mobile’s, Salem’s and Toledo’s. I’ve always felt like the short tracks were just as important as anywhere else we go.”

From the 18 different tracks on the 2014 tour, Kimmel’s been to victory lane at 14 of the 18. Only Daytona, Mobile, Madison and the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course remain unconquered by the southern Indiana second-generation ARCA racer.

“There’s so much cool history at Mobile. The place has been there forever, and so many great drivers got their start there. The list of winners there is incredible I’m sure. No doubt, we’d love to put our name on it. It’s a very important race to me. It’s one of those classic short tracks you’ve heard about all your life and we want our name in the win column there.

“I suppose, because we haven’t won at Mobile yet, it puts a little more emphasis on getting there (victory lane), but if we’re good enough to get there, it’ll be big, and I’ll want to do it again just as bad. Winning never gets old; I don’t care how many times it happens or where it’s at.”

Kimmel was battling for the win in the series’ inaugural appearance at Mobile in 2012, but got bumped from contention late in the going. In last year’s race, he left disappointed.

“The first year we went down with ThorSport, the car was really good, really fast. The second year we went down, I was disappointed in our performance. We were not where we needed to be. Grant (Enfinger) really put it on us.”
Kimmel is of course working with a different team in 2014 – Win-Tron Racing.

“Win-Tron has had great cars both years at Mobile. The car we’re taking down was Mason’s (Mingus) favorite short track car. And we get to go test this weekend, so I’m really looking forward to that.

I normally didn’t get to test on the short tracks, or anywhere for that matter, so this is a special treat for me. And truthfully, we all need testing if you really want to go and compete for the win….as tires evolve and chassis continually change, technology is always a moving target.

“It also gives me and Jamie (Jones/crew chief) another chance to work together. He can learn more about me, and I can learn more about him.”

The third annual ARCA-Mobile 200 race weekend gets underway Friday, March 21 with the first of two practice sessions at 2:30 p.m., preceding final practice at 4:15. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell is scheduled for 7 Friday night. Raceday festivities get going with an on-track autograph session from noon until 1, followed by driver introductions at 1:30. The ARCA-Mobile 200 is scheduled to get the green flag at 2.
