Kimmel frustrated over 11th place run at Elko

(ELKO, Minn. – June 22, 2014) – Frank Kimmel doesn’t leave a race track disappointed very often. But, that’s exactly what he did Saturday night as he left Elko Speedway following the Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care.

Kimmel started third and finished 11th, battling a tight race car all night.

“I’m just really disappointed tonight,” he said. “After practice and that good qualifying run, probably the best of the year, the car just wouldn’t turn when the race started. That’s disappointing.”

Kimmel was the defending race winner at Elko. It’s just the second race this season he finished outside the top 10. He remains third in the ARCA point standings.

“Our car was good in practice, both practice sessions,” he said. “I was looking forward to the race. We’ve ran good here in the past. It just ended up being not a good night.”

Kimmel said his Win-Tron Racing No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota, was “off” once the race started. He got into the No. 17 of Kyle Benjamin, sending Benjamin into a spin and damaging his own right rear.

“It was a chain reaction after that,” he said. “After that, the car just wasn’t very good.

“It’s frustrating. I hate it for the Win-Tron guys, this is like their home track.”

Kimmel will load up and head to Winchester, Indiana for the July 6 race. It’s another track that he’s the defending race winner.

“We’ll run good there, at least I think we will,” Kimmel said. “I’m just really disappointed in our finish at Elko. I thought we had something for them tonight.”

The Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care will be re-broadcast at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 22, on CBS Sports Network.
