Kimmel ‘disappointed’ in Pocono finish

(LONG POND, Pa. – June 8, 2014) – Frank Kimmel brought home another top 10 finish in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Saturday, but his visit to Pocono Raceway this weekend has left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“I’m a little disappointed in the way we ran to tell the truth,” the 10-time ARCA champion said. “I felt like we would run better than we did.”

Kimmel started sixth and finished seventh in the Pocono ARCA 200 in the No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota. It was his 43rd race at the track. He leaves eastern Pennsylvania in third place in the driver point standings, 125 points behind leader Grant Enfinger.

“The car was really free all day,” Kimmel said. “There was more sun today than yesterday in practice. I don’t know if that did it or not. But, with so many long green flag runs, we didn’t really have time to work on the car. (Crew chief) Jamie Jones did what he could when he could, but we couldn’t get it there.” Kimmel had entered the top five late in the race, but he lost several positions after a re-start. “I got on the outside and had to get out of it and lost a few spots,” he said. “After three or four laps, we were okay. That’s when we had to start fighting for our laps back.”

Kimmel will take the same car to Michigan International Speedway next week, the location of the season’s eighth race. “We enjoy Michigan,” he said. “I’m glad to have this race car. Hopefully, we can take it home, tune it a little bit and make it better for the next race.”

The Michigan ARCA 200 will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13.
