Kimmel Disappointed in Top-Ten Effort at Chicagoland

JOLIET, Ill. (July 21, 2014) – The sign of a true championship caliber team can be seen in how a group comes together and overcomes adversity. Despite having an ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race that Frank Kimmel would like to forget, the veteran driver and his Win-Tron Racing team crossed the finish line in the 10th position at Chicagoland Speedway and posted their ninth top-10 finish of 2014.

Kimmel qualified the No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota in the 10th position. Starting from the outside of row five as the green flag flew on the 100-lap event, Kimmel quickly radioed to his team the car was a “10 loose in turns one and two; pretty good in turns three and four.”

At the halfway point of the Ansell ActivArmr 150, the field was slowed by a caution as Kimmel held 10th-place. After a quick stop by the Win-Tron Racing pit crew, Kimmel gained four spots to restart from the sixth position on lap 58. During the green flag run, the No. 44 Toyota became “tight then snapping loose”.

When another caution was displayed on lap 81, Kimmel returned to pit road for tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment. Despite taking off from the eighth position with 14 laps remaining, the Ansell-Menards Toyota continued to struggle through the turns and Kimmel finished in 10th-place.

“I really thought we would run a little better than that,” said Kimmel after the race. “Our car was on edge all weekend and would go from tight to loose just like that. Sometimes it would be both at the same time. The guys on the Ansell-Menards team kept working on the car every chance we were able to come to pit road, but we just never hit on the perfect combo. We will put this one behind us and move on to Indy.”

Kimmel and the ARCA Racing Series will now head to Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana for the SCOTT Get Geared up 200 presented by Federated Car Care on Friday, July 25. The green flag will wave shortly after 9 p.m. ET, with live television coverage on FOX Sports 1. will also have live timing and scoring throughout the entire weekend.
