FRANK KIMMEL FINISHES NINTH DESPITE LATE-RACE ACCIDENT

(WINCHESTER, Ind. (July 7, 2014) – Late race restarts not only provide exciting action for the fans watching but also for the drivers behind the wheel. When a caution forced the field to return to green flag conditions with less than 10 laps remaining in Sunday’s Herr’s Chase The Taste 200 presented by Federated Car Care, business quickly heated up.

Unfortunately, Frank Kimmel received the short end of the stick, as the Ansell-Menards Toyota was struck from behind and sent into the inside wall. Despite the heavy damage, Kimmel continued on to finish in the ninth position.

“It was one of those racing deals,” said Kimmel, after climbing from his Toyota Camry. “On the restart, the car in front of me missed a shift and then the chain-reaction started from behind, sending me into the inside wall. My team fixed what they could to make sure we finished the last eight laps or so and we still managed to come home with a top-10.”

Throughout the 200-lap event, Kimmel steadily ran inside the top-six while clocking lap times just as fast as the leaders. The defending race winner radioed to his Win-Tron Racing team the car would be very inconsistent, making the Ansell-Menards entry a handful at times.

“For some reason our car would do the same thing for four laps and then on the fifth, it would do something completely different,” Kimmel said. “The adjustments would help but it still was very unpredictable.”

After Kimmel received damage on the restart with less than 10 laps remaining, the No. 44 team made repairs on pit road in order for the 10-time champion to complete the race. Because of the timely repairs, Kimmel crossed the finish line in ninth-place.

Kimmel and the rest of the ARCA Racing Series will have a week off before returning to action at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway for the Ansell ActivArmr 150 on Saturday, July 19. The green flag will wave shortly after 5PM, with live television coverage on FOX Sports 2. ARCARacing.com will also have live timing and scoring throughout the entire weekend.
