Sixth-Place Effort for Frank Kimmel at Berlin Raceway

MARNE, Mich. (August 11, 2014) – With much career success at short tracks and a third-place finish two weeks ago at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Frank Kimmel knew the Ansell-Menards team could have a strong performance when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards arrived at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway. And the Win-Tron Racing team did just that on Saturday night during the Federated Auto Parts 200, posting a sixth-place finish.

“The guys on this team worked their tails off all day,” said Kimmel after the race. “At the beginning of the race, our car was just too loose. And once we came to pit road for our stops, the adjustments made the car better but then I made contact with the wall when it was three wide and the Ansell-Menards Toyota started to get way too tight. I couldn’t get into the corner like I wanted at that point. It was a good hard race though – traditional short track racing in the ARCA Racing Series.”

After qualifying his No. 44 Toyota Camry in the 12th position, Kimmel started the 200-lap event from the sixth row with his sights set on the leaders. Quickly, Kimmel began his charge to the front, being scored as high as third, despite the Ansell-Menards Camry being a little too loose. As the first caution flag was displayed on lap 54, crew chief Mark Rette brought Kimmel to pit road for right side tires, fuel and a minor adjustment.

As the field returned to green flag conditions, Kimmel held the sixth position. The veteran driver continued to run consistently inside the top-10 throughout heavy lap traffic, as the top-15 cars spread out across the track. When the caution was displayed on lap 122, Kimmel returned to pit road for four tires, a splash of fuel and a wedge adjustment. Over the final 70 laps, the event remained caution-free and Kimmel crossed the finish line in the sixth position.

Kimmel and the ARCA Racing Series will head to the dirt at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois for the 100 on Sunday, August 17. The green flag will wave shortly after 1:30 p.m. ET, with live timing and scoring and audio coverage on
