April 24, 2016 (Salem, IN) - Intense restarts and a late race charge resulted a 12th place finish in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 for Shane Lee and the No.32 LeeBoy Toyota team. Lee making his first start with the ARCA Racing Series present by Menards at the high banked Indiana half-mile.
Lee posted the third and eighth fastest times in Saturday's dual forty-five minute practice sessions. "This track is unlike any other track I've been too" said Lee following Saturday's opening practice session. "You run the middle in turns one and two and along the outside wall in three and four, it's going to make passing difficult tomorrow and qualifying critical."
With thirty-two cars on the grid set to qualify, Lee would be the fifth car out and with a lap of 17.407 seconds at 114.781 miles per hour would line up ninth for Sunday's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.
When the green flag waived for the 99th running of the ARCA Racing Series at Salem Speedway, Lee started on the inside of row five. Working the bottom groove Lee was able to slide into eleventh as the field started working single file. Fighting a loose on entry, Lee would surrender positions during the long green flag run. The first caution would fall on lap seventy-two, Lee would pit for four tires, fuel, and a chassis adjustment to help with corner entry. A short green flag run before the second caution period for debris. When the field received the green flag for the third time Lee would restart 16th and move inside the top-15 before halfway. Lee and the LeeBoy team continued working on the chassis during the second round of pit stops at lap 134, when the pit crew got Lee off pit road first restarting 11th on lap 137. Lee would continue racing for the lucky dog position but would come up just short and bring home a 12th place finish in his first trip to Salem Speedway.
From the Driver's Seat with Shane Lee... "This was one of the most fun tracks I've been too, passing is difficult you really have to make sure you can clear them off the turn or they will drive back around you on the outside. Todd (Myers) and the guys worked on it both times we were on pit road and the guys did a great time gaining us track position on pit road. I really felt like I learned a lot today especially about turn two, hopefully we can come back in the fall and run the night race.
Looking out the Windshield... Shane will be back in the No.32 LeeBoy Toyota Camry at Talladega Superspeedway in the General Tire 200.
